F6.Studios at Vintage Fair and Fashion Show

Here at F6.Studios we hope you all had a wonderful Mother's Day yesterday however you chose to spend it, whether with your Mam, your Nan, your Aunt or any other female role-model in your life that deserved a bit of spoiling! Just in time for Mother's Day, we headed over to Newcastle College on Thursday where we had a stall selling products from our diverse range of designer-makers.

As you can see we had bespoke caps by Stu Murray-Borbjerg, tailored collars by Melanie Kyles, Betty's Banging Body Buffer organic scrub by Helen Rafferty, crochet floral brooches by Lydia Bayly, framed illustrations by Katie Chappell and double-exposure photography by Katie Dunn.

Keep your eyes on the blog and our Facebook page for where to spot us next, we've a few exciting things in the pipeline for May but we don't want to give too much away...

In the meantime, you can still buy or commission work from our residents, check out these links below:

IDa4 Exhibition Party

Work hard, play harder! That was the motto last Saturday where a number of us from F6.Studios ventured down to floor 3 to attend IDa4's exhibition party. With local graffiti artists spraying 'Max the Van' round the back of Commercial Union House as well as a private birthday held on floor 4, the building had truly transformed from workplace to adult's playground in less than a few hours. With local bands, the city's biggest drag queens (including the beloved Mutha Tucka, Beauty Killer and Crystal Meth from Tucka's Tours), live performances and a brilliant selection of IDa4 work up for grabs, the fundraiser was truly a spectacle to behold.

Fundraising came not only from the art sales and a raffle for limited edition Sochi Olympics canvases, but also from the flamboyant shot queens (strong jelly vodka with raspberries) and a campaign to release a poor lass tied to an electric chair...

Anyways back to IDa4 and their amazing multi-layered stencil art, which features famous people and local characters alike. You may have heard of them more in recent news with the hype that surrounded their now famous Sochi Olympic artwork, which depicts a Russian policeman pinning down an LGBT protester. It was picked up by the BBC, Sky News and The Guardian before going a bit viral (they had emails from all over the world and as far as Australia), and it also helps they recently spent a number of months travelling around Europe (9 countries so far) and leaving their mark in exchange for hostel accommodation! Their time back in Newcastle has been spent gathering more funds to go travelling and to share their artwork with the rest of Europe.

Below is some of the work that was on sale at the event, we think the quote stencils in particular are genius.

It was also great to see some other independent local spray artists getting involved with the cause, impressively spending the entire night spray painting 'Max the Van', the van that has travelled over Europe with IDa4. Although it was a bit chilly as the night wore on, it was worth it to see these talented guys at work!

To keep up with IDa4, check out the links below:

To donate towards their trip around Europe, you can do so through their Travolta page:

Finally, if anyone is interested in owning an original limited-edition canvas (only ten made, measures 80cmx60cm) of IDa4's famous Olympic statement piece, there are still eight left up for grabs, and 50% of the money will be donated to Stonewall charity!

King Crumpet presents 'SEWN'

As International Women's Day happens to be creeping around the corner, what better way to celebrate than to see some work by some wonderfully talented young women at contemporary textiles event 'SEWN'! 'King Crumpet', set up by Hartlepool events guru Hannah Butler, will be showcasing exclusive works from the designers this Friday (March 7th) at Hartlepool College of Further Education from 6.30-11pm.

You may remember in the summer we wrote a blogpost sharing the wonderful work of degree graduates at CCAD (Cleveland College of Art and Design)...welcome back Rosebud Cassoon, Poppycock, Kayleigh Falcus and Linear Outline! We're looking forward to seeing the totally unique jewellery, fashion and illustration from these ladies, and we're also really excited for our free goodie bags worth £10 that come with the £5 tickets to the event!

Here's a little information on the designers taking part:

Rosebud Cassoon

Rosebud Casson's work has a lush organic quality and is heavily inspired by nature, as you can see from her many beautiful laser-cut wooden pieces. We love the quirky illustrative beetles and fox heads in particular, and think they would look fab with a floral tea-dress!

Poppycock

We love Poppycock's vibrant playful characters...just how amazing is her deer illustration?! She's a bit of a multi-tasker, selling knitted goods, illustrations, jewellery and other textile pieces, we wonder what she will be selling at SEWN?

Kayleigh Falcus

Kayleigh Falcus creates dainty but colourful jewellery with an urban edge and beautiful packaging. Her jewellery ranges from kidswear to menswear, and has even been snapped up from as far as New York!

Linear Outline

Linear Outline will embellish the least likely of prints with her colourful lines, giving them a curious twist and a vibrant lease of life. There's a really personal feeling that runs through her work, and we love the pick n mix feel of her Paloma Faith set list!

Unfortunately Tracy Lloyd is no longer taking part in this event, but we would still like to share her amazing work with you...

Tracy Lloyd

Showing a more artistic approach to textiles is artist Tracey Lloyd, who ensures that all of her products are completely unique! She up-cycles unwanted fabrics into conceptual pieces, cushions and textile creatures, and we adore how animated her characters are.

Melanie Kyles' Collars and Cuffs

Studio resident Melanie Kyles, who specialises in making bespoke detachable fashion accessories, is due to launch her website tomorrow on March 3rd! Her website will include all of her up and coming events, as well as a few styling ideas and the opportunity to buy directly from her Etsy shop or request a commission. Here is a set of floral collars and cuffs she recently made for founder of lingerie brand Tallulah Love, Michelle Taylor:

As Melanie has an up-cycled range of basic collars and cuffs, and a huge stash of quality, unwanted fabrics, most items can be made on commission at no extra cost, making them super personal! The accessories can be worn in so many ways, though at the moment we would recommend layering up with chunky knits through the day till it gets slightly warmer...

Bringing out the burlesque in the accessories was a 1930's-style F6.Studio collaboration with very talented corset-maker Kelly Lamb, photographers Michael McGuire and Lucy Cox, modelled by the beautiful Millie Parker:

Keep your eyes peeled for 'melaniekyles.co.uk', and here are some links for in the meantime:
